ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY: Provided construction engineering services for Rock Island's 11th Avenue Reconstruction and Augustana's Recreational Trail Improvement Project
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Missman’s services included preparation of construction plans and specifications for a 570’ long x 39’ wide 8” Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) street on a 6” aggregate base. Sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and other utility improvements were incorporated into the reconstruction project. Missman also coordinated the proposed design with the newly constructed Swanson Commons residence hall to provide efficient and safe pedestrian routes to and from the new facility.
The second portion of the project included preparation of construction plans and specifications for a recreational trail connecting the residential sidewalk along 11th Avenue and 38th Street to Augustana’s central campus trail system. The trail is 10’ wide and meets federal, state, and ADA requirements. This path provides a vital link between the newly constructed residence hall and the central campus trail system. Difficult design aspects of the project included the existing terrain, trees, shallow utilities and adjacent residential homes. Missman was the communication link between Augustana College, the City of Rock Island, Illinois Department of Transportation (ILDOT), and the adjacent residents.
